Noctambule (nightwalker)

“ I found who I was and took the night as mine.” M.J.M.

My embarkation on a personal journey of emotional exploration and understanding originated with my artistic work focussing on pleasing the eye, enjoying visual pleasure in the environment. In recent times my work has transcended past the visual and connected with the emotional well-being of both my artist self and the viewer.
Emotional well-being and/or mental health is a complicated field and a subjective topic. It can affect and touch many in society on a daily basis, however it seems to remain somewhat of a taboo, with behind closed doors discussions and fears of stigma.
My work is subjective reflections and perceptions of mental health and life as I live it. It portrays mindfulness in accepting losses, missed opportunities, regrets, impacts of lifestyle choices and feelings of loneliness while not living alone. It depicts coping mechanisms of a man who has not achieved all he has wished for, who values himself not as he should be valued but as how others have seen him.
Through creative expression this work culminates in an acceptance and insight of self and ignites the fire of desire and increased self-worth to continue to create by utilising the vestiges of the past to nourish the future.
